Before I moved to California, I had the pleasure of living in Chicago (and still often fly back for sessions!). And anyone from Chicago knows November weather can be unpredictable. Will it be slightly chilly, with pretty fall foliage everywhere? Or, will it be bitter cold, windy, and snowing? For Kelsey and Kevin’s fall maternity pictures in Chicago, we luckily didn’t get the latter of the two…but we certainly didn’t get the former, either!

The unpredictable Chicago weather

Despite some cold (mid-30’s!) weather, these two did amazing. Kelsey wanted both the classic Chicago cityscape, along with nature, so we chose a location that could give us both.

While the leaves had all fallen by this time in November, the scenery was still beautiful and we got some great pictures. They bundled up in coats in between each shot, for a quick warm up before we moved on to the next spot. We were able to capture a lot of different angels of the city and nature, as we walked around the Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk.

What to wear

When chatting about maternity pictures in Chicago, I tell clients to wear what they feel most comfortable in, that suits them and their personalities. Are you a fancy dress type of girl? Then dress it up. Are you a jeans person? Then let’s do your session in jeans. I want you to be yourself, so the pictures are memories that represent who your organic self is. And I absolutely love what this couple chose for their session. It goes so well with their surroundings and the time of year. And you can never go wrong with a classic look in black.
